I just watched the new Die Antwoord video for “Fatty Boom Boom” and I’m furious. THAT’S RIGHT, I’M FURIOUS ENOUGH TO GET PISSY ABOUT SOMETHING ON TUMBLR.
The video is straight up bullying, and bullying is bullying is bullying. It’s not trying to make a “point”; it’s just mean. Which leads me to believe DA are fucking simpletons, because only simpletons believe being vocally and maliciously cruel makes any kind of statement of import.
Assholery aside, on the off chance you’re a moron that agrees there is some kind of valid political undercurrent that is important to follow here, you have to concede that these two humungous idiots are incredibly hypocritical. By so ostentatiously lambasting Gaga for using spectacle to gain attention, they’ve managed to out do her on every single level of visual misdirection. So much so you probably didn’t even notice how stupid the song actually sounds.
Using such a grotesque take down of Lady Gaga to draw eyes and ears to themselves and their awful music is a cheap shot, and drops their standard of attention-getting far below the bar set by everything they are railing against. And what’s more, the video isn’t just offensive to Lady Gaga, women, ethnic minorities etc., it’s fucking offensive to everyone, because DA assumed pop music consumers give a fuck about their pseudo-altruistic socio-cultural agenda and actually wanted to be eye fucked by this pretentious drivel.
